All I want is to make people cry.
So I’m sitting at home on a Friday night and instead of going out with my friends, I’m attempting to write my valedictory speech for graduation. I knew this would be tough, but I didn’t realize how tough. How do you recap four years in a short speech? Four years that defined you more than any other time in your life. Where you started over, met new people, made new friends, experienced new things. Strove to be yourself and be happy with your life. To succeed, to have fun, to balance life. How do you appeal to the thoughts and memories of 300 people who all had different high school experiences?
It’s going to take some time and thought but I’m ready. I want it to be good. No, not good. Great. Memorable. Unforgettable. I want people to be able to take something away from it, to carry it with them as they continue their lives after high school.
I don’t know what I’m going to say yet… Yes, I need to figure that out seeing as the speech is due Monday… but words are a powerful thing and hopefully my words will come together to form a powerful effect.
Guess I’m going to go start writing now.
